    Things to do in Taos

Taos skiing is renowned as a resort that’ll keep your interests piqued for days to come, especially if you have a penchant for never-ending groomers or steep, challenging runs. Once your legs tire and you’re looking to experience off-mountain things to do in Taos, you’re truly in for a treat. Taos is world-famous as an arts and cultural community.  Taoseno art is clearly entrenched in its traditional Southwest roots, so you’ll definitely find a lot of authentic art, but there’s also plenty of funky, contemporary pieces to peruse if that’s more your style. Despite its size, Taos is home to several handfuls of art museums, you could spend a whole week just checking out all the arts, crafts and jewelry boutiques. Here’s Ski.com’s don’t-miss Taos art attractions:

    • Millicent Rogers Museum, located on Millicent Rogers road, this art museum features a nice mix of local and native art, including that of the famed pottery artist Maria Martinez.
    • Taos Art Musuem, located on Paseo del Pueblo Norte, Taos’ newest art museum features works from the Taos Society of Artists.
    • Harwood Musuem of Art, located on Ledoux Street, this is the second oldest museum in New Mexico and features an impressive collecton of modern, traditional and contemporary artists, including Agnes Martin.
    • Fechin Institute, located on Paseo del Pueblo Norte, is a quirky Slavic house and art museum worth taking a tour of.

Other don’t-miss attractions include glimpsing over the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, touring the historic Spanish mission San Fransisco de Asis Church and of course the Taos Pueblo, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and a National Historic Landmark. This multi-storied adobe has been continuously inhabited for over 1,000 years.

After all that sight-seeing –not to mention skiing—rest your tired bones on the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and Spa, which also features outdoor private pools with fireplaces, a full service spa, steam room and sauna.

    Taos Outdoor Activities

If the world-class skiing and laundry list of attractions don’t tire you, the Taos outdoor activities will. There’s something for everyone, from Taos Snowshoe Adventures to tubing at Strawberry Hill or snowmbiling on the peaks and ridges above the ski resort. Get your cardio on, and cross-country ski or skijor (skiing with your dog) on the Enchanted Forest’ 33 km of groomed trails. The Enchanted Forest is located just 45 minutes from Taos.
