With a staggering 4,000 acres of skiable terrain spread out over nine peaks, Canyons is one of the largest ski areas in North America. A Canyons ski vacation is best enjoyed by intermediate to advanced skiers due to the terrain type; however, the top of Red Pine Gondola affords beginners an ideal progression zone, plus, high-alpine scenery and Wasatch vistas.
Canyons base village and Park City’s close locale accommodate everyone’s off-mountain interests, from world-class dining, ample shopping, several live music and performing arts venues to the annual Sundance Film Festival, and a lively bar and nightclub scene. The après-ski and dining scene in the Canyons base village are not to be dismissed either. The resort’s 2010 renovations have transformed the base area, specifically the Ski Beach area, into a popular après-ski hang out—especially on sunny afternoons.

About 90 percent of the Canyons terrain is intermediate to expert, so more experienced skiers are sure to love exploring the resort’s expansive nine peaks. And while there is not a ton of beginner skiing, the “learn to ski” zone at the top of Red Pine Gondola and its corresponding beginner trails, surrounding Sunrise lift, is an exceptional novice area—and affords views that typically only intermediates and experts can enjoy. Intermediates have memorable, never-ending runs off of Dreamcatcher and Dreamscape and fun, gully cruisers, like Spider Monkey and Upper and Lower Boa. Experts have multiple mini-paradises, but the best area is Red Pine Bowl and the lower portions of the lower ridgeline, Fantasy Ridge. In this zone, experts can expect chutes, glades and plenty of sustained steeps. Murdock Bowl off of Super Condor Bowl features more traditional “bowl skiing,” i.e. wide-open steeps.
