SKIING STEAMBOAT SKI RESORT

One of Colorado’s snowfall leaders, the Steamboat skiing is almost always incredible. Combine its 350 annual inches with state-of-the-art grooming capabilities and you can imagine that skiing cruisers at Steamboat is among the world’s best. Steamboat’s terrain is well dispersed, allowing skiers of all levels to explore the mountain, and even ski together. Families with beginners to experts will love the fact that they can each enjoy their ideal terrain and then meet back up at one of Steamboat’s lifts and enjoy quality time as they ride the chair. The terrain between Sunshine Express and Sundown Express offers something for nearly everyone: beginner, intermediate and expert. Intermediates and experts can easily access the backside of the mountain—Morningside Park—and all of its well-spaced tree and steeps skiing.

Beginner skiers will delight in the many shorter beginner trails off of the Bashor Lift, which easily leads back to the base area. There are also plenty of sustained beginner groomers perfect for getting the legs in ski shape. Intermediates, too, have many exceptionally long and well-groomed trails to choose from, in addition to the advanced intermediate runs off of the Pony Express Lift to test their skills on. Expert skiers on the hunt for extreme terrain will find they can’t stay out of Christmas Tree Bowl’s steep glades and well-preserved powder.

A Fantastic Family Getaway to Steamboat

    Lift lines and grooming

A little disappointed in the grooming and lift lines. Typically waited 10 to 15 minutes in lift lines, longer in the mornings.

    Steamboat spring

Great mountain. The mountain is really big so it takes a day or two to get you bearings by a great place to ski.

    Always a treat

Steamboat is our favorite ski destination. it has a great variety of things to do, it's unpretentious, and though its gotten bigger over the last 10 years it is still "far from the madding crowds". We drove in from Denver and that was completely manageable - 4 scenic hours. It is obviously also very beautiful in the summer months, would love to get out and see it then!

Our Ski trip to Steamboat Spings

Our trip was fantastic and Steamboat is now our favorite place to go and Ski. Not only is the mountain and resort excellent but downtown is also a great place to go wander around shop and eat. We wanted to go back as soon as we arrived home. Shawn Turner

    Great time at Steamboat

Steamboat seems to have terrain for all abilities and desires. We prefer the steep and groomed and were not disappointed. There was never a lift-line during the week; lines on Sunday could easily be avoided by going to a different area. There are a number of dining options at the base and on the mountain. Yeah, they are expensive, but no more than other resorts. We liked Timbers & Torch. The free bus gets you to town and an infinite number of restaurants and shops.

Ski.com is so easy to use.

This is our second year using ski.com and they just make everything so easy. We booked our hotel and rentals through them and they were so helpful. I can honestly recommend them.

    Great room and great skiing

Great spring skiing awesome room with nice view. Extremely comfortable bed. Great value.

    Steamboat Springs Review

We love skiing in Steamboat as a family. We've tried all of the big resorts and this is surely our favorite. The people are so friendly and the mountain is just perfect for a family of 5 to navigate and enjoy.

Nice variety of terrain. Something for everybody.

There was so much variety with the lifts and the terrain that you couldn't get bored. We even took a day off to go cross country skiing which was located nearby.

    Mostly a great time!

The abundant snowfall of the 2019 winter season helped make this first visit to Steamboat an exciting and very fun experience. Excellent skiing conditions and beautiful wintry vistas could be found on all of the numerous trails of every category. For some reason, the Sundown Express seemed to have more stoppages than other lifts on the mountain during our visit. Perhaps loading and unloading that lift proves more difficult for some and should be investigated for improvements. Otherwise lifts operated well with friendly attendants. Food on the mountain was for the most part excellent. Unfortunately, the chicken chili at Thunderhead did not agree with my skiing buddy the second day. Beware. The only real drawback to this year's Steamboat visit was the inadequacy of the regional airport at Hayden. For an airport serving several major airlines, it can easily become overwhelmed, especially on Saturdays. The facility is too small and if even one flight is delayed, there is insufficient seating. Airport deicing equipment broke down during my departure effectively stranding three AA flights overnight requiring us to book lodging accommodations in Craig, a town about 20 miles away in the opposite direction because all accommodations in Steamboat were already fully booked.

Over the past couple of years, Steamboat has become one of my favorite ski towns.

In fact, I find myself going back to enjoy the town and the mountain at least once or twice a year. My love of Steamboat started seven years ago when I spent my bachelorette weekend there with my best girlfriends during Steamboat's Winter Carnival. We got buried with three feet of fresh snow during our visit. We thoroughly enjoyed skiing through the fresh powder and the aspen tree glades that Steamboat is so well known for, and the dining and nightlife of downtown Steamboat kept us celebrating late into the night. This March, I had an opportunity to experience Steamboat for what so many of my clients have come to appreciate about it. My best friend, who also joined me for my bachelorette extravaganza 7 years back, and I decided that it would be the perfect spot to celebrate my 40th birthday, so we packed up the cars and headed there with our husbands and kiddos, ages 4 - 6. During our visit, we stayed in a nicely appointed three bedroom unit at the Lodge at Steamboat. It was furnished perfectly for our two families.

There were two bedrooms set up for couples each with an ensuite bath. The kid's room also had an ensuite bath and it was located farthest from the living room, which was convenient for enjoying some adult time after the kids went to bed. The furnishings were lovely. There was a flat screen TV in the living room along with in each bedroom. There was plenty of seating for our group throughout the living and dining areas and the kitchen was nicely stocked with everything we needed to enjoy meals in. The kids loved the Lodge's outdoor heated pool, and the parents enjoyed the ease of getting everyone to/from the slopes, which was less than a 10 minute walk from the condo, with kids in tow. The Lodge at Steamboat also had a guest courtesy shuttle available.

On day one we decided to treat ourselves by signing all of the kids up for ski school, so that we could have an adult ski day. All three kids had a blast in ski school and we parents truly enjoyed having a day off. The drop off and pick up process for our 4 year old was smooth and efficient. Our son loved his instructor, got a report card at the end of the day, and he couldn't wait to ski with us after his lesson wrapped up to show us what he had learned. My friend's twin 6 & 12; year olds skied all over the mountain in their lesson. Later on that evening, they loved watching how fast they went and how much terrain they had covered via the gps app that tracked their progress.

Day two we had a family ski day. It was wonderful being able to ski the whole mountain across green terrain with our 4 year old level 2+ riper. After spending the morning skiing the excellently groomed cruiser runs off the Sunshine lift, we stopped for lunch at the on mountain Rendezvous Lodge. We were all impressed by the wide array of food and beverage choices at Rendezvous. The kids got their much loved mac&n cheese while the adults opted for entrees such as green curry shrimp and chicken lo mein noodles. The portions were large and we felt the pricing was reasonable, especially considering how much on mountain dining typically costs for a standard burger and fries. After skiing off our hearty lunch, we wrapped up our day by enjoying a thrilling ride on the Mountain Coaster. What a blast! Our whole group was hooting and hollering as we raced our way down and around the tracks. After two big ski days we all were ready to sooth our muscles before driving back home, so we headed down to the Old Town Hot Springs located in downtown Steamboat and enjoyed a relaxing morning of soaking in the outdoor hot pools. The Old Town Hot Springs can be accessed for a daily fee. The facility has a number of outdoor soaking and swimming pools, water slides (open in the afternoon only), fitness facilities, massage services, and they even offer affordably priced child care options. It was the perfect way to wrap up our 3 night, 3 day getaway to Steamboat.
